Dermal Fillers & Facial Rejuvenation

Dermal fillers are a popular, safe, and non-surgical way to improve volume and smoothness to your skin for a natural and aesthetically pleasing result. We provide fillers for Atlanta patients to help achieve non-surgical minimally invasive rejuvenation and enhancement.

Some dermal fillers (Restylane and Juvederm) are based on a hyaluronic acid gel that closely resembles the body’s own hyaluronic acid. Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in a gel carrier which helps stimulate the body’s own collagen production.

Our Selection of Dermal Fillers

At Atlanta Derm Surgery, we offer several types of fillers depending on the degree of the volume loss and the specific area being treated. We use the following dermal fillers:

The Benefits of Fillers

Various injectable fillers can address:

Fillers are chosen based on the results they are intended to accomplish. Certain areas like the lips and eyes need a thinner filler like Restylane Silk, while cheek volumization will require a thicker, stronger filler like Restylane Lyft. Radiesse works especially well for volume loss on the hands. Drs. Baucom & Mina will discuss with you first to make sure the right filler is selected.

Ideal Candidates

People with moderate to deep facial wrinkles, hollow cheeks, thin lips, or other areas that lack volume are good candidates for dermal filler injections. Additionally, people with areas of excess stubborn fat are the best candidates for the autologous fat transfer procedure.

Ideal candidates for fillers do not have active skin infections in the intended treatment regions. It is also important to have realistic expectations. Candidates can review filler before and after photos in our gallery to get a better understanding of their potential results.

Fine lines and wrinkles on the face are typically treated with Botox rather than fillers, since the source of these wrinkles relates to contracted muscles rather than volume loss.

Lips Filler Process using Restylane Kysse

Restylane Kysse is an injectable lip filler in the Restylane family of fillers. It can improve the color of lips, smooth out any perioral lip lines (also called lipstick lines or smoker’s lines), and augment the lips by adding new volume. It makes use of XpresHAn Technology and can help you achieve natural results thanks to its cross-linked hyaluronic acid.

There is no downtime required following treatment with Restylane Kysse. It’s normal to experience some swelling and redness just after treatment, but you can return to normal activities on the same day or just the day after treatment. The swelling and redness should disappear in a week. The natural-looking results achieved through the use of Restylane Kysse can last for up to 11 months.

Your Dermal Filler Consultation

No matter what type of dermal filler you will be using, you will first need to undergo a consultation. During this consultation, you will need to go over your complete medical history, including any allergies, past procedures, and medications currently being taken. You can ask any questions you may have.

The Filler Treatment Session

These FDA-approved treatments can take 15 to 30 minutes or more based on the area being treated and the extent of change desired. Larger areas will require more time.

After removing any make-up and cleaning the skin, a topical numbing medicine will be applied to help make the injections more comfortable. Next, Drs. Baucom and Mina will ease the injectable gel under the skin to instantly restore the skin’s volume and smooth away lines such as smile lines around the mouth or hollowing under the eyes.

Autologous Fat Transfer

Autologous fat transfer is a specialized type of filler treatment used to fill depressions and age lines. Instead of using a foreign substance, stubborn excess fat from the patient’s own body is used as the filler substance. This creates a lower chance of rejection or allergic reaction.

At the start of a facial fat transfer procedure, fatty tissue is removed via liposuction and small cannulae. This tissue is then purified to remove any unnecessary elements, including dead and damaged fat cells. Using healthy fat cells leads to longer-lasting results.

Anesthetic is then administered to the areas of the face that require rejuvenation. Once the fat is purified, it is carefully injected into these numbed regions of the face to create new volume.

After Your Filler Treatment

Once the treatment session is over, patients can go right back to their everyday schedules without any need for downtime or recovery time. While you won’t have to stop doing normal activities after the treatment, it’s a good idea to avoid anything strenuous for at least two days.

Most side effects are mild and temporary and may include pain with injections, bruising and swelling. To address these, ice packs are recommended. Additionally, it is best to avoid heavy sun exposure for a time.

The results of a filler treatment can last for six months or longer, depending on the chosen filler. Certain fillers have been seen to last up to two years or longer. The amount of time that filler results last will depend on the chosen filler, along with your metabolism. Autologous fat transfer is typically either very long-lasting or permanent.

After the results of injections have faded, patients can return for treatments in order to maintain their youthful appearance.
