Chemical Peels are a non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedure that is performed placing low-strength acid on the skin that peels the outer, damaged layer of skin. There are a number of skin surface issues that can be resolved or improved through the chemical peel such as sun-damage, fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots and pre-cancers. By removing the damaged outer layer of the skin, the fresh, new skin beneath is revealed for a more youthful and revitalized appearance.
There are different grades of chemical peels, some stronger (meaning they penetrate deeper) than others. Following the chemical peel, patients can expect to see redness which will have a slight whitish “frost” and a thick layer of ointment covering the treated area. Pinkness will remain for several more weeks. Patients can expect the treated area to be healed and back to normal about 3 weeks after the procedure.
